Initiative and discussion paper

We need courage, foresight and concrete action from multiple

betterSoil for a better world!

This is an initiative for promoting soil humus/carbon enhancement. There is a discussion paper that forms the core of the initiative.

The aim of the paper is to promote humus formation practices for sustainable agriculture not only in practice but also in the political environment and to mobilise resources for the implementation of these practices. In addition, the paper aims at reaching the European Parliament and, consequently, at creating a global impact through the mobilization of the EU. Therefore, we have so far translated the paper into six to seven EU languages (English, German, Italian, Spanish, Swedish, Finnish and Polnish). Other languages such as French are planned.

Our paper addresses the role of practitioners, farmers, policymakers, academia and the private sector in promoting soil humus enhancement, closing carbon/nitrogen cycles and fostering a humus economy (see the section “What are the goals of this paper?” in the discussion paper). Your encouragement would therefore greatly help our paper and the initiative to achieve its goals.

The goal is to organize either a parliamentary inquiry or a hearing and to make a resolution out of it and have it passed in parliament. Therefore we are currently looking for possible contacts in the European Parliament, especially for parliamentarians from the Agriculture and Environment Committee.

It is a great pleasure that we have been able to initiate something with betterSoil so far and we would be delighted if you could take this initiative forward with us.
