betterSoil in Davos
At the World Economic Forum 2024 in Davos, we discussed the role of soil in mitigating and adapting to climate change, promoting biodiversity and ensuring food security with experts from many countries. We presented our betterSoil principles as innovative techniques for improving soil health and restoring soil, emphasising the need for sustainable agricultural practices. The forum emphasised the urgent need to protect and restore our soil resources to create a resilient and sustainable future for all.
Emphasising soil at UN level
A few months ago we signed a Memorandum of Understanding and are working together with Mr Alain-Richard DONWAHI and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) COP15. It was a pleasure to meet again Mr. Ibrahim Thiaw, Executive Secretary of the UNCCD, in Davos where he spoke about land degradation. Soil health is the foundation of a healthy land and we emphasised how important land and soil restoration is for the health of the planet. The health of soil and land is the health of people! We are what we eat....
Club of Rome and betterSoil
We were invited to give a presentation in Davos at a meeting of the Club of Rome on innovative and regenerative approaches to connect science and practice and bridge the gap. With its focus on improving soil health and promoting sustainable agricultural practices, betterSoil offers a holistic solution to the challenges of food security and climate change. By applying regenerative techniques such as cover cropping, crop rotation and betterSoil Booster as an organic amendment, betterSoil aims to restore soil fertility, promote biodiversity and sequester carbon. This innovative approach not only benefits farmers by increasing yields and reducing operating costs, but also contributes to a healthier planet for future generations.
betterSoil meets celebrity Eckart
We met Eckart again in Davos. Medicine and soil have a common task: human health! Prof. Dr. Eckart von Hirschhausen is a comedian, professor and star in Germany and is fighting for more sustainability at European level. Humans, like many other animals, have a complex structure. But the soil, the thin layer of the earth, is known to be the most complicated system on earth, more complex than the human body.
6 years finally over!
We finally met in person again. It was a pleasure to meet Mamphela Ramphele. She is the Honorary President of the Club of Rome and one of the first ladies known worldwide who believed in the idea of betterSoil and supported our discussion paper with her name. We have been exchanging ideas for the last 6 years, but now the time has finally come to meet again. Thank you for this intergenerational and effective co-operation and support.
