betterSoil joins forces with the City of Ulm and unw for an evening all about biodiversity and soil health—exploring what science, business, and society can do to protect the ecosystems beneath our feet and why it matters for companies' profitability too. Come along and find out how.
Soil goes on the stage
The most underrated topic of all time is finally getting the spotlight it deserves—soil. In collaboration with the City of Ulm (Stadt Ulm) and unw – Ulmer Initiativkreis nachhaltige Wirtschaftsentwicklung e.V., betterSoil is proud to co-organize this year’s unw-Stadthausveranstaltung. Posters are now up all over Ulm inviting the community to join a powerful and inspiring evening on April 29, 2025, at Stadthaus Ulm—and yes, it’s all about soil! Because it’s not just dirt. It’s the living foundation of our ecosystems, our food, and our economy. When soil ecosystems degrade, they stop filtering water, cycling nutrients, or storing carbon. And this has direct consequences—not only for our planet but also for our ability to grow food and sustain life.
What to expect at the event
Under the theme “Preparing the Ground for the Future – Living Better with Biodiversity,” the event brings together expert voices from science and business to explore the hidden universe beneath our feet:
Speakers & Highlights
• Prof. Dr. Emma J. Sayer from Ulm University will open the evening with “A Universe Beneath Our Feet” and explain how critical soil biodiversity really is.
• Dr. Tobias Orthen, Co-Founder and CFO of betterSoil, will present “We Dig It! Making Soils Better,” sharing how soil regeneration is good for people and profits.
• The event wraps up with a panel discussion featuring Azadeh Farajpour, Founder and CEO of betterSoil, Prof. Dr. Emma Sayer, Wolfram Wiggert (Biolandwirt, Löffingen) moderated by Prof. Dr. Marian Kazda (unw e.V.), bringing business, science, and practice into one conversation.
